Ways we disseminate our data – our outputs

Statistical First Release

This is used to publish data for the first time from a new data set - for example from a quarterly or annual data collection. It does not matter whether Statistical Directorate collected the data (but if not, the original publisher should be informed).  A Release will not be used simply to achieve media attention.

Statistical Bulletins

These are used for subsequent more detailed analysis of a data set already published, either in a Release or by someone else - for example another department or agency. Bulletins which deserve wide circulation are discussed with Press Office about how to achieve this.

Headline Statistics Wales

These are used as a gateway to background or additional tables, maps or data published outside SD, as well as to the Release or Bulletin itself. A stand-alone Headline Statistics Wales can be used to highlight statistics on a topical issue.

Statistical Articles

Articles generally relate to one-off analyses for which there are no updates planned, at least in the short-term.

StatsWales tables

Tables will usually be published to the Internet at the same time as a Headline, Release or Bulletin but occasionally they will be issued separately (eg during StatsWales development, routine updates).

Reference documents

They include plans, guides to sources and methodology papers.
