New Deal Statistics, Figures to August 2010 / November 2009
Please note most of the New Deal Programmes have been replaced by the Flexible New Deal (FND) which was introduced in half of the Jobcentre Plus districts in October 2009. The new employment programme policy means FND will not be rolled out nationally and will be phased out. The new work programme will replace FND and existing New Deal provision across GB in 2011.
An overall summary of the 3 main New Deal programmes are:
- Between January 1998 and August 2010 there were 120,300 starts in total on the New Deal for Young People (aged 18-24 years) programme, with 48,800 people (85 per cent) who have entered sustained jobs(1).
- Between July 1998 and August 2010, there were 53,000 starts on either the original or enhanced New Deal 25plus (aged 25 years plus) programme(2). Of these, 14,500 people (83 per cent) have entered sustained jobs(1).
- Between October 1998 and August 2010, there were 108,700 starts in total on the New Deal for Lone Parents programme, with 25,400(3) people (59 per cent) who have entered sustained jobs(1).
(1) A job from which the participant does not return to New Deal within 13 weeks. This includes jobs in which participants have been employed for less than 13 weeks, but have not yet returned to New Deal.
(2) From April 2001, New Deal 25plus was extended so that those aged 25plus became eligible for the programme once they had been claiming JSA for 18 out of the last 21 months. The programme was also enhanced to provide clients with access to a greater and more tailored range of support and provision.
(3) This is the sum of the rounded local authority figures due to no Jobcentre Plus regions figures being available this quarter due to quality issues.
Please note that due to problems identifying people moving from employment programmes into employment, DWP have been unable to update the employment programme “jobs” data. Therefore the statistics on jobs above are to November 2009 rather than February 2010. The currently published numbers are reliable and DWP expect to update these on 16 Februray 2011.
As the New Deal and the FND are being phased out we will no longer be publishing this headline. This information will continue to be available from DWPs website. The publication of statistics on employment programmes will be reviewed once DWP have further information on the range of statistics that will be available under their new employment programme policy.
