Community Pharmacy Services, 2009-10
The latest National Statistics on General Pharmaceutical Services produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 25 November 2010 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
Statistics include the number of pharmacies, prescriptions dispensed and pharmaceutical services offered in Wales for the period up to the end of March 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 26 November 2009.
The key points from the latest release are:
- There were 707 community pharmacies and 4 appliance contractors in Wales on 31 March 2010. There is little change in the overall total of community pharmacies but the proportion of community pharmacies that are independents continues to decrease.
- There were 3 openings and 2 closures of community pharmacies.
- 107, 998 Medicine use reviews were provided by community pharmacies up 20.1 per cent from 2008-09.
- 63.1 million prescription items were dispensed by community pharmacies up 4.1 per cent from 2008-09.
