NHS Direct Wales Update, Quarter Ending June 2011
The latest statistics on calls to NHS Direct Wales produced by the Welsh Government were released on 3 August 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
Statistics on NHS Direct Wales include data for Wales for the quarter up to the end of June 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 4 May 2011.
The key points from the latest release are:
- 91,600 calls were offered, a 3 per cent fall since the previous quarter, and 2 per cent down on the April to June quarter in 2010;
- 69,500 calls were answered, a 5 per cent fall since the previous quarter, and 16 per cent down on the April to June quarter in 2010;
- Almost 10,500 calls were transferred to NHS Direct Wales, from the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, for clinical triage;
- 900 calls were answered (out of 1,600 offered) from callers expressing a preference for the call to be taken in Welsh (around 1 per cent of all calls answered);
- Nearly 180,000 visits were made to the NHS Direct Wales website, an increase of 20 per cent on the previous quarter, and 36 per cent up on the April to June quarter in 2010; and
- More than 900 on-line enquiries were made to the web-based enquiry service, an increase of 55 per cent on the previous quarter, and 109 per cent up on the April to June quarter in 2010.
