The latest National Statistics on Welsh Index of Market Services produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 10 February 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
The Welsh Index of Market Services show the short-term movements in the output of service sector companies within Wales, including new data for the three months to September, relating to 2010 quarter 3. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 9 November 2010.
The key points from the latest release are:
- The longer term trend for the Welsh Index of Market Services shows a rise of 0.8 per cent when comparing the latest four quarters with the previous four quarters. The UK figures show a rise of 0.3 per cent over the same period. The rise over the longer term is largely accounted for by a rise over four quarters in output of Financial Services. The increase in the UK was due to increases in distribution and business services.
- Over the shorter term (latest quarter compared to previous quarter) output in Wales fell by 0.5 per cent whilst the UK rose by 0.5 per cent.
The dataset on StatsWales will be updated to include these new data by 12 noon on 10 February 2011.
