Consumer and Retail Price Indices (UK), March 2011
The latest National Statistics on Consumer Price Indices produced by the Office for National Statistics were released on 12th April 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
Statistics on Consumer Price, Retail Price and Retail Price (excluding mortgage interest payments) indices include data to March 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 22nd March 2011.
The Consumer Price Index is an internationally comparable measure of inflation and is also used to compare inflation rates across the European Union.
The key points from the latest release are:
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for March 2011:
- In the 12 months to March 2011, the CPI rose by 4.0 per cent, down from 4.4 per cent for the 12 months to February 2011.
- In March 2011, the CPI stood at 118.1 (2005=100).
The all items Retail Price Index (RPI) for March 2011:
- In the 12 months to March 2011, the all items RPI rose by 5.3 per cent, down from 5.5 per cent for the 12 months to February 2011.
- In March 2011, the all items RPI stood at 232.5 (January 1987=100).
The RPI excluding mortgage interest payments (RPIX) for March 2011:
- In the 12 months to March 2011, the all items RPIX rose by 5.4 per cent, down from 5.5 per cent for the 12 months to February 2011.
- In March 2011, the RPIX stood at 231.7 (January 1987=100).
