Welsh Index of Market Services Quarter 4, 2010
The latest National Statistics on Welsh Index of Market Services produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 10 May 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
The Welsh Index of Market Services show the short-term movements in the output of service sector companies within Wales, including new data for the three months to December, relating to 2010 quarter 4. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 10 February 2011.
The key points from the latest release are:
- The longer term trend for the Welsh Index of Market Services shows a rise of 0.3 per cent when comparing the latest four quarters with the previous four quarters. The UK figures show a rise of 1.0 per cent over the same period. The rise over the longer term is largely accounted for by increases over the four quarters in the output of Financial Services and hotels and restaurants. The increase in the UK was due to increases in distribution and business services.
- Over the shorter term (latest quarter compared to previous quarter) output in Wales rose by 0.5 per cent whilst the UK fell by 0.8 per cent. The UK services output estimates for 2010 quarter 4 were known to have been affected by the bad weather. The Welsh data used to compile the Index of Market Services has shown that business services in Wales appear to have been less affected by the bad weather than the UK as a whole.
The dataset on StatsWales will be updated to include these new data by 12 noon on 10 May 2011.
