Consumer and Retail Price Indices (UK), April 2011
The latest National Statistics on Consumer Price Indices produced by the Office for National Statistics were released on 17th May 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
Statistics on Consumer Price, Retail Price and Retail Price (excluding mortgage interest payments) indices include data to April 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 12th April 2011.
The Consumer Price Index is an internationally comparable measure of inflation and is also used to compare inflation rates across the European Union.
The key points from the latest release are:
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April 2011:
- In the 12 months to April 2011, the CPI rose by 4.5 per cent, up from 4.0 per cent for the 12 months to March 2011.
- In April 2011, the CPI stood at 119.3 (2005=100).
The all items Retail Price Index (RPI) for April 2011:
- In the 12 months to April 2011, the all items RPI rose by 5.2 per cent, down from 5.3 per cent for the 12 months to March 2011.
- In April 2011, the all items RPI stood at 234.4 (January 1987=100).
The RPI excluding mortgage interest payments (RPIX) for April 2011:
- In the 12 months to April 2011, the all items RPIX rose by 5.3 per cent, down from 5.4 per cent for the 12 months to March 2011.
- In April 2011, the RPIX stood at 233.7 (January 1987=100).
