Welsh Transport Statistics 2010 – Chapter 8: Public service vehicles

The latest National Statistics on Public service vehicles produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 26 January 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

UK Statistics Authority Website Statistics on Public service vehicles include data up to 2011-12.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • Provisional figures suggest that there was a 3 per cent decrease in local authority public transport support in Wales during 2009-2010 compared with the previous year. England saw a 3 per cent decrease, and Scotland an 12 per cent decrease during the same period.
  • Local bus fares continue to rise steadily in Wales where there was an increase in real terms of 2 per cent between 2009-10 and 2008-09. Great Britain saw an increase of 4 per cent during the same period.
  • A local transport services grant of £11 million was allocated to local authorities for 2011-12.
  • The number of local passenger journeys has fallen from 125 million in 2008-09 to 117 million in 2009-10. Over the same period, local bus and coach vehicle kilometres have fallen from 126 million to 121 million, which is due to the fall in commercial services.
