Delayed Transfers of Care, April 2011

The latest statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care produced by the Welsh Government were released on 24 May 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on Delayed Transfers of Care include data for Wales on the census date 20 April 2011. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 26 April 2011.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The total number of patients experiencing a delayed transfer of care on the census date of 20 April 2011 was 469; this is a decrease of 31, or 6.2 per cent, on the figure for 16 March 2011.
  • The total number of patients waiting to leave the NHS was 389.  Of these, 111 were delayed in mental health facilities and 278 were in other acute and community hospitals. A further 47 patients were experiencing a delayed transfer within the NHS or waiting for an assessment and for 33 the next stage could not be determined.
