The latest statistics on pupil destinations from schools in Wales produced by Careers Wales were released on 30 March 2011.

Statistics on pupil destinations from schools include data for Wales for the period up to 31 October 2010. The latest release updates the statistics previously released in March 2010.

Year 11 cohort

Overall, 83 per cent of the year 11 cohort continued in full-time education (82 per cent in 2009), continuing the general increase seen in recent years.

  • 90 per cent entered into some form of continued full-time learning, either in full-time education or Government supported work-based training (89 per cent in 2009).
  • A further 2 per cent entered employment without Government supported training (similar to 2009).
  • 83 per cent continued in full-time education - 86 per cent of females compared with 80 per cent of males.
  • 5 per cent of the cohort were known not to be in education, training or employment (6 per cent in 2009).

Year 13 cohort (students in the second year of a school sixth form only)

Overall, 56 per cent of the year 13 cohort entered a higher education institution, excluding those taking a gap year, compared with 60 per cent in 2009.

  • 80 per cent entered into some form of continued full-time learning, either in full-time education or Government supported work-based training (81 per cent in 2009).
  • A further 9 per cent entered employment without Government supported training (8 per cent in 2009).
  • Of those continuing in full-time education in 2010, 71 per cent entered a higher education institution, 3 per cent formally deferred their entry into higher education, 13 per cent continued in a school sixth form and 13 per cent entered a further education institution.
  • 7 per cent of the cohort were known not to be in education, training or employment (similar to 2009).

The results of this study are not classified as National Statistics.
