Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
Statisticians in the Heath and Safety Executive (HSE) work in the Statistics Branch, part of the Analytical Services Division (also comprising Economics and Social Research Units), which is part of the Chief Scientific Adviser's command. They are responsible for statistical and epidemiological support to HSE policy colleagues, delivery programmes and field operations - covering the following key topics/areas:
- work injuries and work-related illness (their scale, distribution, causal and preventive factors)
- statistical assessment of progress towards the national health and safety targets
- assessment of statistical and epidemiological evidence on known or potential health and safety risks in the workplace
- the statistical aspects of the design of interventions including evaluation studies and impact assessments
