Energy consumption in the United Kingdom

Energy consumption in the United Kingdom cover

Energy consumption in the United Kingdom document was a publication that looked at the trends in energy consumption in the United Kingdom. Data have been published annually since the late 1990s.

Statistics are brought together from a variety of sources to provide a comprehensive review of energy consumption and changes in efficiency, intensity and output since the 1970s, with a particular focus on trends since 1990.

Data

The data in ECUK are classed as national statistics and are presented in five Excel workbooks. Each workbook is accompanied by a factsheet to provide readers with interpretation of the key data series.

These data were last updated in July 2011, with a number of series being revised from previous editions of ECUK.

Helping you interpret the data

In addition to the factsheets, a user guide provides the explanation of technical concepts and vocabulary, supported by illustrative examples. The tables selected for explanation in this guide are those considered to be the most complex by our users.

Energy consumption in the United Kingdom was last published as a full document in July 2002. Its main purpose is to provide data on energy consumption patterns . The document includes an analysis of the factors behind the changes in energy consumption and the impact of increasing activity, increased efficiency, and structural change in the economy.

You can also download information on development of indicators tracking the energy performance of households.

If you require any assistance with interpretation or explanation of the tables or you would like to give us a feedback, please email Will Rose (Will.Rose@decc.gsi.gov.uk) or call  0300 068 6909.
