Summary
The latest England net supply of housing statistics produced by Communities and Local Government were released on Thursday 1 November 2012.
The latest statistics report on net supply of housing up to the 2011-12 financial year and update those previously released on 2 November 2011.
Key points from the latest release are:
- Annual housing supply in England amounted to 134,900 net additional dwellings in 2011-12, an 11 per cent increase in net additional dwellings from 2010-11. This compares with a fall of 6 per cent between the net supply in 2009-10 and 2010-11.
- The 134,900 net additions figure for 2011-12 comprised 128,160 new build homes, 5,240 additional homes resulting from conversions, 12,590 additional homes resulting from change of use, 1,100 other gains and a loss of 12,200 homes through demolitions.
- There was, in addition, a net increase of 2,400 communal establishments. This was composed of a net increase of 2,350 student halls and a net increase of 50 other communal establishments.
