Governement

This theme covers statistics relating to central and local government, including public sector productivity and elections, produced by departments within the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Statistics on International Affairs are produced by the Department for International Development (DfID).

Defence statistics relate to information produced by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and the UK Armed Forces. Statistics are available on defence finance, on manpower numbers and health of the Armed Forces, and on equipment, activities and the defence estate.

The Ministry of Defence publishes an annual UK Defence Statistics publication, which covers all of the defence topic areas, as well as a range of other National Statistics and official statistics publications on specific areas of defence statistics.

Most defence statistics are sourced from MOD administrative systems. Information is available on the strength of the regular Armed Forces broken down in various ways, and on intake, outflow and gains to trained strength.

Statistics are also published on deaths and suicides in the Armed Forces, on war pensions, and on mortality of veterans of the first Gulf war. Official statistics on operational casualty numbers are also available.
