Registrar General's Annual Review

Since civil registration began in 1855 the Registrar General for Scotland has prepared a report annually, to be laid before Parliament. Since 1999 it has been laid before the Scottish Parliament.

The Annual Review contains a summary of the numbers of births, deaths and marriages registered during the previous year. In 2001 the format of the report changed to include more commentary and items of topical interest. Tables which were previously included within the Annual Report are now contained separately within the Vital Events Reference Tables.
