The UK National Statistics Publication Hub is the gateway to the latest statistics release each day by government departments in the UK.

The information on this page explains what you can find within the different sections of the Publication Hub.

Publication Hub

The Publication Hub is the first port of call for anyone seeking the latest statistics released by government departments in the UK. It is the central website where the planned publication dates of new statistical data are announced in advance, and where you will find links to all first releases of National Statistics publications.

The term 'National Statistics' is an accreditation quality mark which indicates that the statistics in the publication have been assessed by the UK Statistics Authority and judged to be compliant with the Code of Practice for Official Statistics. The code covers a range of measures, such as relevance, integrity, quality, accessibility, value for money and freedom from political influence. Data classed as National Statistics provide an up-to-date, comprehensive and meaningful description of the UK's economy and society.

The Publication Hub brings together in one place updates and statistical news releases from all National Statistics producers. You can access these when they are available directly from this website or by subscribing to the RSS news feed. You can also access the statistics from the individual producer's website.

The Publication Hub also provides links to official statistical products and publications that are not designated National Statistics. It is the only website where you can access past and present statistical releases from across government. In addition, you can find information about when future statistical releases are going to be available.

All statistical releases on this website are held on departmental websites, along with underlying sources and datasets. As the producers of these statistics, the departments are responsible for their content and accuracy. Contact details are provided with each statistical release. The Publication Hub itself does not produce any statistics.

The UK Statistics Authority provides guidance on the content and dissemination of releases as part of the Code of Practice for Official Statistics, supplemented by additional guidance from the National Statistician. For now, the content of releases will remain the responsibility of departments.

Heads of Profession in each department are responsible for the professional quality of outputs released through the Publication Hub and approve the publication of outputs before their release.

Theme and topic pages

Theme and topic pages help you browse and find data more easily. They form a classification system or catalogue to which each statistical publication is assigned.

The catalogue contains 11 themes and 155 topics in total. The theme pages contain links to all of their individual topics and also show the key publications for each theme.

Each topic page has four tabs which contain different information:

  1. Overview – a brief description of the topic. It is often followed by up to three graphs which show key statistics relating to the topic. Contact details for further statistical enquiries are also provided
  2. Publications – contains any past, present and future releases by government departments which directly relate to each topic
  3. Technical data – an in-depth look into the statistics related to the topic: how they are made, who collects and publishes them, and what they are and mean
  4. Glossary – describes any unfamiliar words or technical terms within the topic

If applicable, links to related topics, UK statistics, other reports and other websites and related statistics are also shown on the topic pages.

Links within the UK statistics section are supplied by the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Cross-cutting topics

Cross-cutting topics are subjects that do not fit within just one theme because the information is relevant across many themes. Their information is presented in the same way as other topics with an overview, publications, technical data and glossary page.

If applicable, links to related topics, UK statistics, other reports and other websites and related statistics are shown on the cross-cutting topic pages.

Regional statistics: find statistics for a local area or region

Many official statistics relating to local areas are published separately by the four countries of the UK: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Other publications provide geographic data across the whole of the UK.

In this section there is a map of the British Isles showing England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland with corresponding links to your country of choice. You can also find summary facts and figures for your region of interest by selecting 'Statistics for Regions in England'.

If you access 'Statistics for Regions in England', this will take you to a map of Great Britain showing the regions in England. There are nine regions in England in total, including the North East, London and Yorkshire and The Humber. The links in this section will take you to information about these regions, including local authority areas.

Links are also provided to the websites holding National Statistics at a more local or neighbourhood level.
