Promotion
As an Assistant Statistician, you would be part of an accelerated promotion programme. We would expect you to be competing for a senior grade (Grade 7 Statistician) within four to five years of appointment or sooner, and the selection board will be looking for the potential to reach even higher levels.
Statistical Officers also have the opportunity of promotions. Promotion is on merit, with the opportunity to progress to Higher Statistical Officer and Senior Statistical Officer before applying for Grade 7.
You can reach the Senior Civil Service whichever route you select.
Please note, the Government wide recruitment ban is temporarily impacting on promotion prospects in some departments.
Salary
Salary scales will vary from department to department and region to region.
Average starting pay is approximately £25k - £28k for Assistant Statisticians and £23k - £26k for Statistical Officers and Temporary Statistical Officers.
Some departments operate a flexible starting pay policy to recognise previous experience and qualifications.
Increases in pay depend purely on performance. Once you achieve promotion to Grade 7 Statistician, starting salaries are around £44,000 to £50,000.
Please note that there is currently a Government-wide 2 year pay freeze.
