Family Resources Survey 2002-03
The Family Resources Survey collects information on the incomes and circumstances of private households in the United Kingdom. It has been running since October 1992.
This site summarises the results of the tenth full survey year, which is the first to include data from Northern Ireland, in which approximately 29,000 households were interviewed.
Since these results were published, the Northern Ireland grossing has been revised for 2002-03. Grossing is the process of applying factors to sample data so that they yield estimates for the overall population.
- Further information on grossing can be found in the methodology.
This revision has affected the Northern Ireland results and several United Kingdom tables. However, the overall impact is minimal, resulting in a maximum change of two percentage points for a small number of published figures, so these have not been revised.
- The Department for Social Development in Northern Ireland has issued revised tables for their Family Resources Survey, Northern Ireland report, and so the Regional and Northern Ireland specific tables in this report will have minor differences to those published on the UK website.
- Information is provided on the background and methodological aspects of the survey with tables covering:
- Household characteristics
- Income and state support receipt
- Tenure and housing costs
- Assets and savings
- Carers
- Occupation and employment
