The special educational needs survey – known as SEN2 – is completed in January each year by local authorities. It is the main source of data collected on children with statements of special education needs.
This is different from the data on number of pupils with statements in schools - which is collected as part of the school census. It is the only source of data on statements issued by individual local authorities (LAs).
