Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted)

Statisticians in the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) work in the Research, Analysis and International Division (RAID), located within the Central Services Directorate. All statistical staff work to a Head of Profession for Statistics, and RAID provides support to the three other directorates: Children, education, and Learning and Skills. RAID are responsible for statistics and analysis covering the following key areas:

• pre-inspection statistical information to inform inspections of schools, colleges, adult learning providers
• pre-inspection statistical information to inform assessments of children’s services within Local Authorities
• Ofsted’s annual report
• analysis of data to inform and support scheduling of inspections
• analysis of post-inspection data to monitor Ofsted’s performance, and to inform the development of inspection
