Region and Country Profiles - Directory of Tables

Released: 17 October 2013 Download PDF

Abstract

Region and Country Profiles brings together official statistics for the regions of England and the constituent countries of the UK (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) to provide insight and context to help in understanding the relationship between locations and the people who live there. The information supports social and economic commentary and decision making at local, national and international levels. A series of tables are published at different times of the year. The tables provide a wide range of demographic, social, environmental and economic statistics. They provide a central source to enable users to compare the countries and regions with each other, and with national (UK where available) averages, and to explore the variation at local authority level. Alongside the tables, Regional Profiles for each topic are produced, which providing key facts and figures for each region, build up a picture about life and the economy in each of these regions, to help users interpret and use the statistics more effectively. A new addition for this release is an interactive mapping and charting tool that enables the exploration of data from the six Key Statistics topics at Region and Country level. It can be used to compare different areas within each topic on a variety of data. The Directory of Tables lists all of the available tables by topic and provides links to the tables and profiles.

Introduction

‘Region and Country Profiles’ provides a source of essential statistics for the regions of England and the constituent countries of the UK (Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). The reference tables continue some of the tables previously published in Regional Trends.

We publish five sets of tables as Excel files for Key Statistics, Population and Migration, Social Indicators, Economy and Environment. Key Statistics is updated frequently throughout the year, to provide the most up-to-date data. The topic-based datasets are released less frequently. Regional Profiles and Country Profiles, based on the Key Statistics tables, that give key facts and figures in words, numbers and graphics about life and the economy in each of the regions and countries, are produced annually. Regional  Profiles for the other topics are produced irregularly. We update the Directory of Tables each time we publish an update.
