Forestry Commission

The Forestry Commission (FC) acts through three National Offices (which in Scotland and Wales serve as the devolved forestry departments). Statisticians work in the Economics and Statistics team. Located in Edinburgh, it is part of Corporate & Forestry Support, which covers all the remaining GB-wide activity, funded by Westminster and provides services to the three countries. They are responsible for providing economic and statistical information, research, analysis and advice, contributions to policy development, monitoring and evaluation of sustainable forestry. This covers the following key topics/areas:

  • forests and woodlands
  • UK grown timber industry
  • forest recreation and other public benefits
  • climate change, carbon and wood as renewable energy
