  • United Nations World Tourism Organisation (www.unwto.org)
    The United Nations World Tourism Organisation is the definitive source of market intelligence about global tourism trends.  Among the material you will find here is the UNWTO Tourism Barometer which is published three times each year, the annual Tourism Highlights publication as well as forecasts for global tourism through to 2020 (due to be updated in late 2009).

  • World Travel and Tourism Council (www.wttc.org/)
    The World Travel and Tourism Council is the forum for business leaders in the Travel and Tourism Industry.  Resources include ‘Travel & Tourism Economic Impact’ reports for just about every country worldwide updated on an annual basis and a ‘forecast tool’ that allows the user to explore historic and forecast estimates of tourism’s economic contribution across a number of measures for each country.

  • World Economic Forum
    The World Economic Forum publishes an annual Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report which shows the relative competitiveness of just about every country worldwide when it comes to Travel and Tourism.  The rankings are based on the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI), which measures the different regulatory and business-related issues that have been identified as levers for improving travel and tourism competitiveness in countries around the world.

  • The International Air Transport Association (www.iata.org/index.htm)
    The International Air Transport Association represents 253 global airlines comprising 93% of scheduled international air traffic.  IATA regular publish information concerning trends in global aviation demand.

  • Pacific Asia Travel Association (www.pata.org)
    The Pacific Asia Travel Association provides market intelligence for countries in the Asia Pacific region, including international tourist arrivals data along with a bi-monthly ‘Issues and Trends’ publication.

  • European Travel Commission (www.etc-corporate.org)
    The European Travel Commission Market Intelligence Group conduct a number of research projects, often in partnership with other bodies including the United Nations World Tourism Organisation.  Among these are quarterly ‘Trends and Prospects’ reports for European tourism, Market Studies (for example ‘The Chinese Outbound Travel Market’) and Handbooks of Best Practice (for example ‘Handbook on Tourism Destination Branding’). 

  • European Commission Tourism Unit (ec.europa.eu/enterprise/tourism/index_en.htm)
    The European Commission Tourism Unit hosts a number of events relating to tourism policy within Europe.

  • Tourism data for European countries and cities (Tourmis) (tourmis.wu-wien.ac.at/index_e.html)
    The Austrian based Tourmis organisation provides comprehensive and timely tourism trend data for a large number of European destinations, both at the country and city level.

  • European Airlines Association (www.aea.be)
    The European Airlines Association provides monthly figures on air travel by European region and airline on a monthly basis.

  • New Media Trend Watch
    New Media Trend Watch has been created to help keep European tourism marketing professionals fully up to date on trends in internet usage by tourism consumers across the world.
