The 2001 Local Authority Area Classification datasets have been updated to take account of the unitary authorities created in April 2009. The updates apply to three datasets:

This update also corrects an error found in the 2001 Local Authority Area Classification: Standardised Census 2001 Source Data file which is available on Neighbourhood Statistics as a download file. More information on the error can be found here.
These data are used by national and local government departments and academics to analyse and compare social patterns, by the marketing industry for customer profiling, by businesses to help put services in the right areas, as well as by the public for general interest.
