UK's carbon footprint
Annual greenhouse gas and carbon dioxide emissions relating to UK consumption.
Documents
Details
This publication investigates the impact that UK consumption has on carbon dioxide emissions. The worldwide production of goods consumed in the UK is taken into account, as well as goods produced in the UK and emissions directly generated by UK households. The structure of the UK economy has been shifting towards the services sector. The consequence of this is that more of the goods UK households consume are now produced abroad.
We are all consumers – of food and drink, personal travel, household products and travel tourism. As such, we are accountable to some degree for the pressures which our consumption puts on the environment.
Please note Table 13 (Indirect emissions from the supply chain) has been discontinued. We recommend you use the conversion factors for converting and calculating supply chain emissions factors.
There are some conversion factors for 2017 included in the spreadsheet.
Please note the data for 1990 to 1996 is included in the spreadsheet on all tables and charts, but does not have the same level of confidence as the data from 1997 onwards.
