About the Code

The framework for the Code of Practice is based on three pillars.

Each pillar contains a number of principles and detailed practices that producers should commit to when producing and releasing official statistics. On the page for each Code principle you’ll find a table with guidance and resources.

The Office for Statistics Regulation reviews compliance with the pillars, principles and practices of the Code.

Trustworthiness

Trustworthiness is a product of the people, systems and processes within organisations that enable and support the production of statistics and data.

Quality

Quality means that statistics fit their intended uses, are based on appropriate data and methods, and are not materially misleading.

Value

Value means that the statistics and data are useful, easy to access, remain relevant, and support understanding of important issues.
