Understanding and effectively applying data ethics within our rapidly evolving society is a global issue.
Engaging with other National Statistical Institutes, international organisations and bodies is important to us and allows us to develop a shared understanding of the range of ethical issues that exist today and how they can best be addressed.
The Centre for Applied Data Ethics is leading the ethics component of a collaboration between the ONS and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on the ethical implementation of machine learning for the modernisation of official statistics.
The Centre will collaborate with a number of National Statistical Institutes across the globe to lead the development of ethical principles providing a clear framework and tools to enable National Statistical Institutes to use machine learning in ethically appropriate ways.
