Statistics at HMCTS

How to find statistical data and analysis for courts and tribunals.

HM Courts and Tribunals Service publishes monthly management information to provide more frequent and timely measures of the operation of the court and tribunal system.

The Ministry of Justice publishes quarterly official statistics relating to the operation of the criminal and civil justice systems, including courts and tribunals.

During the coronavirus outbreak HMCTS is publishing additional management information used for understanding the impact on workload volumes and activity at a national level.

Due to the nature of large administrative systems, such as late reporting of cases, the figures will be revised each publication and therefore should be taken with caution. The revisions are minor and do not usually change the overall picture of performance.

Management information

HMCTS monthly management information
A monthly release which looks at understanding the workload volumes and timeliness at a national level.

HMCTS weekly management information during coronavirus pandemic
Every month we publish weekly management information used by HMCTS for understanding workload volumes and timeliness at a national level during coronavirus (COVID-19). We did not publish this in July and August 2021 following some essential technical work. New case management systems across a number of HMCTS services mean that there is still further technical work that needs to be completed, and we know that the weekly data is more subject to variations. We’re not publishing this data while we review our approach. We still publish monthly data on the impact of the pandemic on workload and timeliness at a national level across jurisdictions. Contact us if you have any feedback or questions on our MI publications.

Weekly use of remote hearing technologies in HMCTS(audio and video hearings)
Up until end of May 2021, we published data on the use of audio and video technologies to facilitate court and tribunal hearings, alongside face to face hearings. We’ve not published this since the data collection process has changed. We’re reviewing the next series of data ahead of its intended release next year. We still publish monthly data on the impact of the pandemic on workload and timeliness at a national level across jurisdictions. Contact us if you have any feedback or questions on our MI publications.
