Casework

As the Authority’s regulatory arm, Office for Statistics Regulation (OSR) is responsible for managing its casework function, undertaking monitoring to identify issues and investigating issues raised with the Authority.  We use our voice to stand up for statistics and to represent the public, reporting publicly where we have concerns and highlighting good practice.

Our interventions policy provides more details on our role in making public interventions on the use of statistics.

All issues considered are recorded in our Issues Log in the sidebar. Inclusion in the issues log does not necessarily mean that we share the concern, nor does it indicate a commitment to further action, although some of these matters will be followed up. We aim to update the Issues Log every Wednesday.

In October 2020, we started publishing quarterly management information related to our Casework. Quarterly data will be published on the last Thursday of the month following the relevant quarter.

A high proportion of our current casework relates to COVID-19.  To see more about our work including statements we have made on these issues please visit our dedicated COVID-19 page.

We also produce an annual summary of our casework which provides details of the volume and types of cases we have looked at.

If you have any comments or feedback or would like highlight a concern with us please email regulation@statistics.gov.uk. Alternatively, you can write to us at:
