Background and methodology: Cold Weather Payment estimates 2022 to 2023

Find out about getting a Cold Weather Payment.

The weekly and monthly estimated payments include breakdowns for England and Wales, in addition to the total estimates.

The Social Fund Cold Weather Payments scheme runs from 1 November 2022 to 31 March 2022. This is known as the Cold Weather Payment season.

The estimated number of eligible recipients and triggers in the data tables are to 13 January 2023.

If you live in Scotland

You cannot get Cold Weather Payments.

You might get an annual £50 Winter Heating Payment instead. You’ll get this payment regardless of weather conditions in your area.

  1. Published the latest Cold Weather Payment estimates, data to 13 January 2023.

  2. Published a revised version 'Weather stations and postcodes: Cold Weather Payment scheme 2022 to 2023'. In Table 1 (Weather Stations used in the 2022 to 2023 Cold Weather Payment Scheme), CT6 postcode was linked to both Langdon Bay and Shoeburyness weather stations. This was incorrect and CT6 postcode is now correctly linked only to Shoeburyness. No other changes have been made.

  4. Published the latest Cold Weather Payment estimates, data to 16 December 2021.

  5. Published the latest Cold Weather Payment estimates, data to 9 December 2021.
