Fire Statistics Monitor Wales, Quarter 1 2007

The latest National Statistics on provisional fire incident statistics produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 2nd May according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

National Statistics Kitemark Statistics on provisional fire incident include data for Wales for the period up to the end of March 2007. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 14th December 2007.

The key points from the latest release are:

Fires:

  • The Welsh Fire and Rescue Services attended around 46,500 fires and false alarms in the year ending 31st March 2007, an increase of around 7 per cent on the previous period.
  • The number of primary fires in Wales decreased by 5 per cent compared with the previous period.

Casualties:

  • There were 20 fatal casualties from fires in Wales in the year ending 31st March 2007, down from 24 in the previous period.
  • There were around 630 non-fatal casualties from fires recorded compared with around 760 in the previous period.

False Alarms:

  • In the year ending 31st March 2007, there were around 20,000 false fire alarms in Wales, an increase of 6 per cent from around 18,900 in the previous period.
  • There were around 1,700 malicious false fire alarms during the period an increase of 2 per cent when compared with the previous period.
