Consumer and Retail Price Indices (UK) - March 2008
The latest National Statistics on Consumer Price Indices produced by the Office for National Statistics were released on 15 April 2008 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.
Statistics on Consumer Price, Retail Price and Retail Price (excluding mortgage interest payments) indices include data to March 2008. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 18 March 2008.
The Consumer Price Indices is an internationally comparable measure of inflation and is also used to compare inflation rates across the European Union.
The key points from the latest release are:
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for March 2008:
- In the 12 months to March 2008 the CPI rose by 2.5 per cent, the same as for the 12 months to February 2008.
- In March 2008, the CPI index stood at 106.7 (2005=100).
The all items Retail Price Index (RPI) for March 2008:
- In the 12 months to March 2008 the all items RPI rose by 3.8 per cent, down from 4.1 per cent for the 12 months to February 2008.
- In March 2008, the all items RPI index stood at 212.1 (January 1987=100).
The RPI excluding mortgage interest payments (RPIX) for March 2008:
- In the 12 months to March 2008 the all items RPIX rose by 3.5 per cent, down from 3.7 per cent for the 12 months to February 2008.
- In March 2008, the RPIX index stood at 205.3 (January 1987=100).
