Clinical Dental Report for England and Wales, 2009-10
The latest statistics on clinical dental treatments produced by the NHS Information Centre for Health and Social Care were released on 7 December 2010.
Statistics include the number of Courses of Treatment (CoTs) and numbers of clinical treatment items in Wales for 2008-09 and 2009-10. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 11 March 2010.
The key points from the report are:
- In 2009-10, 31.5 per cent of adult Courses of Treatment (CoTs) included a scale and polish, equating to 530 thousand CoTs.
- 320 thousand of these were carried out within a Band 1 CoT.
- Nearly 180 thousand Band 2 CoTs included a scale and polish.
- In 2009-10, 240 thousand adult CoTs included a radiograph, with the majority of these taken within a Band 2 CoT (over 110 thousand).
- For children the large majority of recorded clinical activity takes place at Band 2 level. Permanent fillings and sealant restorations are the most common recorded treatment. In 2009-10, 23.8 per cent of all child CoTs included a permanent filling or sealant restoration, equivalent to nearly 140 thousand CoTs.
