Key facts

  • 22 per cent of residents in both Wales and Great Britain lived in households with incomes below 60 per cent of the median after housing costs. The equivalent figures before housing costs were 19 per cent in Wales and 17 per cent in Great Britain.
  • 30 per cent of children in Wales lived in households with incomes below 60 per cent of the median after housing costs, higher than the GB average (28 per cent), but lower than London and the North East (38 and 37 per cent respectively).
  • Wales had the lowest percentage of pensioners living in households with incomes below 60 per cent of the median after housing costs and joint second lowest before housing costs.
