Farming statistics

This is the new location for National and Official Statistics on the structure of the farming industry including crop areas, yields and production, livestock populations, detailed labour-force figures and diversification activity for England and the United Kingdom.  This brings together information previously published on the “June Survey of Agriculture and Horticulture” and the “December Land Use and Livestock” pages.

The publication of UK and England December 2012 livestock populations was originally scheduled for Thursday 7 March 2013. Unfortunately this publication will now not be available until Thursday 14 March 2013. This is to tie up with the publication of the Scottish livestock populations, allowing UK totals to be produced. If you require any further information about this please contact: sarah.harriss@defra.gsi.gov.uk.

Data uses

The statistics have many uses, from assisting with animal disease control processes to providing information used for management of the EU cereals markets. It is also used heavily by environmental policy makers who assess the impact of CAP reform on the agricultural industry and the landscape.
