The People and Places theme is wide-ranging and provides information on statistics relating to many parts of life. These areas include:

people - language, holidays, food, cultural and sporting activities, including tourism

housing - current housing, homelessness and housing requirements

communities - social cohesion and neighbourhood issues

planning - commercial, industrial, retail and residential
-
fire and rescue services
The government department responsible for issues relating to neighbourhood, housing and planning is the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG).
Other departments providing statistics within this theme include the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
A number of surveys provide data for the topics within the People and Places theme. These include the Census and Labour Force Survey, both produced by ONS.
International tourism statistics looks at trends in overseas residents travelling to the UK and vice versa. Domestic tourism measures overnight tourism trips within the UK as well as tourism day trips.
