UK Statistics Authority website

Statistics on the prevalence of disability include data for Wales for the calendar year 2007.

The latest Annual Population Survey (APS) combines the boosted samples of the Labour Force Survey and provides rolling four-quarter labour market data for UK countries and regions and also for local areas. For Wales the APS consists of a sample of about 20,000 households every year.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • The level of Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) defined disability in Wales in 2007 was around one fifth of the working age population
  • In 2007 around three-quarters of DDA disabled people were also work-limiting disabled
  • In 2007 the percentage of DDA disabled people generally increased with age. Over one third of people between the ages of 55 years and pensionable age have a DDA disability in Wales
  • There had been a slight fall in the levels of disability between 2004 and 2007
  • Overall, disability levels were similar between men and women, although there were larger differences in some local authorities

Revision note

The data used to populate this output has been revised due to the reweighting of the Annual Population Survey which is undertaken regularly to ensure that it is consistent with the latest Mid Year Estimates. As a result, the data in this bulletin have been superseded and may differ from those published elsewhere. Updated data are available on the StatsWales website.
