The latest National Statistics produced by the Welsh Government were released on 14 February 2013 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on NHS General Dental Services activity and the number of people seen include data for Wales for the period up to the end of September 2012. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 20 November 2012.

All figures in this quarterly release are provisional; final statistics for the year will be published in the annual statistical output in August 2013 providing a wider range of analysis.

Activity between 1 July and 30 September 2012:

  • a total of 1.21 million Units of NHS Dental Activity (UDAs) were carried out, a decrease of 3.5 per cent compared to the same period last year. This represented 578,100 (to the nearest 100) individual courses of treatment (CoTs), a decrease of 2.2 per cent when compared to the same period last year

Patients treated:

  • 1.67 million patients were recorded as having been treated in the 24 months before 30 September 2012 amounting to 54.6 per cent of the population, 64.5 per cent of the child population (under 18 years old) and 52.1 per cent of the adult population (18 years or over), this is a slight decrease from the same period last year, when 55.0 per cent of the population was treated
