Regional information

Summary economic and labour market statistics for the four economic regions of Wales. Information includes employment, earnings and the number of businesses.

The four Welsh economic regions are listed below along with the local authorities within each of the regions:

  • North Wales: Isle of Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham.
  • Mid Wales: Powys and Ceredigion.
  • South West Wales: Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea and Neath Port Talbot.
  • South East Wales: Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan, Monmouthshire, Newport and Cardiff.

These regions are based on the Department of Economy and Transport’s (DE&T) economic regions (which are the same as Department for Children Education and Lifelong Learning regions). However, the DE&T regions split Gwynedd between Mid Wales and North Wales, with Meirionnydd being in Mid Wales and the rest in North Wales. Due to data availability we have used whole local authorities rather than splitting Gwynedd.
