Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2011

This is the official measure of relative deprivation at the small area level for Wales. It replaces Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) 2008.

Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2011: StatsWales tables
Access to the complete WIMD data set on StatsWales, including a look-up table for postcodes and Lower Level Super Output Area (LSOAs). Physical environment indicators for 2011, previously available only at LSOA level, were published aggregated to local authority and deprivation decile group on 28 June 2012.

Revision notes

  • An error was identified in the 2011 indicators affecting the death rate (standardised per 100,000 population). This does not affect the Health domain, main index or LSOA ndicator values, only those indicators at higher aggregated levels. These indicators were corrected on 12th December 2011.
  • A small error was identified in the 2011 indicators, affecting youth and adult offending rates only. This did not affect the community safety domain, main index or LSOA indicator values, only those indicators at higher aggregated levels. These indicators were corrected on 22 November 2011.

Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation 2011: Technical Report

This technical report, published on 22 December 2011, describes how the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD) 2011 was constructed. The deprivation domains which were used are listed, together with the indicators within each domain, and the geographical units used are specified. The report also explains the statistical algorithms used to construct the index from these components.

Also included are the individual domain scores and overall index scores for each LSOA.
