A Statistical Bulletin presenting the Internet results from National Survey for Wales has been produced by the Welsh Government. It was released on 19 December 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The bulletin presents the Internet results collected in the National Survey for Wales from January to March 2012.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • 70% of households had access to the internet.  This equates to approximately 77% of people aged 18 or over having access to the internet at home.
  • Around three quarters of privately rented and owner occupied households had internet access compared with just over half of those in social housing.
  • 73% of people said that they used the internet at home, work or elsewhere; this varied by age with a far greater proportion of people under 45 using the internet than those aged 45 and over.
  • Internet users under 25 years old are more likely (41%) than internet users aged 65 and over (8%) to have accessed the internet at another person’s home in the last three months.
  • Men were twice as likely to access the internet from their games console (12%) than women (5%).
  • Of those who did not use the internet, 56% didn’t want to, and 35% didn’t need to use the internet. 19% stated that they did not have the skills.
  • Of those who use the internet, 79% of people stated they had accessed government and public service websites within the last 12 months.
