We will be examining the publication arrangements to ensure they add value.
This report covers the general principles and processes leading up to the production of our statistics.
As pre-announced in the NHS Wales Accident and Emergency Departments Statistical Release published on 30 August 2012, there is a new approach to publishing the emergency departments waiting times data for the August 2012 data onwards.

The monthly data will now be published by NHS Wales Informatics Service on their website as management information, around the 15th day of each month.

The statistical release and quality report provide advice on the quality of this information and what it can be used for. This information is classified as management information as it has not gone through the additional statistical validation or interrogation that is normally the case for the official statistics outputs.

The January 2013 management information has been published by the NHS Wales Informatics Service on 15 February 2013.

A wider user consultation on our statistical outputs was also issued on 1 October and closed on 31 December 2012. We will use this to ensure that this new approach continues to meet user needs and explore how to improve and extend this further. For further details on the changes see the quality report.

There have been resubmissions for May to June 2012 data: the StatsWales tables have been updated to reflect these changes. Any revisions to management information for August 2012 onwards will be handled by NHS Wales Informatics Service.

For May to June 2012 data at all Wales level, there is less than 0.1 percentage points difference in the percentage seen within 4 and 8 hours for all emergency care facilities, with some changes at LHB level as well. There were also changes to the number of attendances and numbers seen within 4 and 8 hours. The impact of this will be looked at in the next official statistics publication.
