Our strategy to achieve the vision for Welsh housing.
The Programme for Government is our plan of action. It represents a real commitment to delivery, measured by the impact government is actually having on people's lives.

Information on vacant local authority and Registered Social Landlords dwellings as at 31 March each year.

Data on social housing vacancies is collected from local authorities and registered social landlords on an annual basis.

The information is used by the Welsh Government to establish the overall number of empty dwellings across Wales, to assess the effectiveness of social landlords in managing their stock. It is of importance in monitoring the commitment in the Welsh Government’s National Housing Strategy – ‘Improving Lives and Communities – Homes in Wales’ to ‘Make the best use of homes that are unoccupied’ and the Programme for Government 2011 -2016, commitment to ‘Introduce a new Empty Properties initiative in partnership with local authorities to target the thousands of homes in Wales that have been empty for more than 6 months.’

As of March 2012, headlines and releases on social housing vacancies include information on social housing rent arrears. Prior to this lettings information was combined with social housing stock and lettings.
