The latest National Statistics on Affordable Housing Provision in Wales, 2007-08 to 2010-11 produced by the Welsh Assembly Government were released on 14 December 2009 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on Affordable Housing Provision in Wales include data for the years 2007-08 to 2010-11.

The key points from the release show:

  • Over the two years, 2007-08 and 2008-09, local authorities reported that a total of 4,235 additional affordable housing units had been delivered across Wales.
  • In 2008-09, 2,543 additional affordable homes were delivered in Wales. This is around 50 per cent more than the 1,692 homes delivered in 2007-08.
  • The majority of additional affordable housing units (75 per cent in 2007-08, 81 per cent in 2008-09) were delivered by Registered Social Landlords (RSLs), largely funded by Social Housing Grants.
  • Over the two years, 2007-08 and 2008-09, 27 per cent of all additional affordable housing units delivered were through planning obligations (1,156 units in total).
