Higher Education Student Enrolments and Qualifications Obtained at Higher Education Institutions in the UK, 2009/10

The latest National Statistics on ‘Higher Education Student Enrolments and Qualifications Obtained at Higher Education Institutions (HEI) in the United Kingdom for the Academic Year 2009/10’ produced by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) were released on 13th January 2011 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Enrolments

  • The total number of HE enrolments at UK HEIs was 2,493,420, showing an increase of 4 per cent from 2008/09.
  • The number of HE enrolments at Welsh HEIs was 127,885, an increase of 1 per cent from 2008/09.
  • Full-time enrolments at Welsh HEIs increased by 9 per cent and part-time enrolments decreased by 12 per cent.
  • At Welsh HEIs there were 65,975 first year enrolments, an increase of 1 per cent.
  • Full-time, first year enrolments at Welsh HEIs increased by 12 per cent, and part-time, first year, enrolments fell by 14 per cent compared with the previous year.

Qualifications Obtained

  • At UK HEIs there were 350,860 first degree graduates (a 5 per cent increase on 2008/09).
  • At Welsh HEIs there were 19,215 first degree graduates (a 4 per cent increase on 2008/09).
