The latest National Statistics on End of Foundation Phase Outcomes and National Curriculum Assessments of core subjects at Key Stages 2 and 3 produced by the Welsh Government were released on 14 August 2012 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on End of Foundation Phase Outcomes and National Curriculum Assessment results at Key Stage 2 and 3 include final Wales data for the 2012 teacher assessments.

Foundation Phase Outcomes

  • 4 in 5 (80.5 per cent) pupils at the end of Foundation Phase achieved the expected outcome in all mandatory areas of learning.

Key Stage 2

  • Results are higher for all subjects when compared to 2011, and higher by at least  13 percentage points for each subject than they were in 1999.

Key Stage 3

  • Results are higher in all subjects when compared to 2011, and higher by at least 13 percentage points for each subject than they were in 1999.

Gender differences

  • Girls outperform boys in each area of learning/subject in each Foundation Phase/Key Stage.
