The latest National Statistics on Affordable Housing Provision in Wales, 2010-11, produced by the Welsh Government were released on the 19th October 2011, according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics on Affordable Housing Provision in Wales include information on the number of additional affordable housing units, covering all tenures, delivered across Wales during 2010-11 and the estimated future provision for 2011-12 and 2012-13.

The key points from the release show:

  • In 2010-11, local authorities reported that a total of 2,486 additional affordable housing units had been delivered across Wales. This represents just over 1 per cent of all socially rented dwellings as at 31 March 2010.
  • The highest delivery rate at 43.1 units per 10,000 households was in Monmouthshire and the lowest, at 4.5 units per 10,000 households, was in Powys.
  • The majority (86 per cent) of the additional affordable housing units delivered during 2010-11 were funded with capital grants.
  • Welsh Registered Social Landlords (RSLs) continue to make the largest contribution to additional affordable housing in Wales, delivering 91 per cent of all additional affordable housing provision during 2010-11 (2,261 units).
  • During 2010-11, 29 per cent of all additional affordable housing units delivered were through planning obligations (711 units in total).
