Ambulance services, January 2013

Statistics include data for January 2013. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 30 January 2013.

The key points from the latest release are:

• there were almost 36,000 emergency calls, 5.6% fewer than in December 2012
• of these, more than 14,600 were Category A (immediately life-threatening) calls, a decrease of 5.9% over December 2012
• 59.6% (8,559) emergency responses to Category A (immediately life-threatening) calls arrived at the scene within 8 minutes, below the all-Wales target of 65% for the eighth successive month
• snow affected parts of Wales during January 2013 and a number of major roads were closed as a result - this is likely to have affected performance
