The latest statistics produced by the Welsh Government were released on 19 February 2013 according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

Statistics include data for Wales on the census date of 16 January 2013. The latest release updates the statistics previously released on 22 January 2013.

The key points from the latest release are:

  • the total number of patients experiencing a delayed transfer of care on the census date of 16 January 2013 was 455; this is an increase of 35, or 8.3%, on the figure for 19 December 2012
  • the total number of patients waiting to leave hospital was 358. Of these, 93 were delayed in mental health facilities and 265 were in other acute and community hospitals. A further 62 patients were experiencing a delayed transfer within the NHS or waiting for an assessment, and for 35 the next stage could not be determined
